It’s almost the end of the year, and 2023 is on the horizon. Now that the world is open again, you can fully embrace the festivities and that means going all out with your makeup. After all, if New Year’s isn’t the perfect excuse to have fun with your face, then what is? Here are 5 trendy looks to consider this coming NYE.

Colour Pop

After being stuck at home for two-plus years, everyone’s doing the most with their makeup. Pops of neon are a great way to show off your creativity and have fun. It may look intimidating, but there are plenty of ways to try this trend, even if you’re a makeup minimalist.

Instead of neutral highlighter, feature a highly pigmented wash of colour in the inner corners of your eyes for a playful look. You can also wear coloured mascara or sport a cat eye with neon eyeliner. Use a coloured liner for a trendy floating crease or line your lower waterline.

Classic Smoky Eye

This list wouldn’t be complete without the classic holiday look — a red lip and smoky eyes. Play up the smoke this year with metallics. Dab a bit of colour-shifting multichrome shadow on your eyelids for a traditionally festive, but trendy look. This look never fails for the holidays. If you want to try something new, metallic lipsticks are also making a comeback.

Glitter Euphoria

Thanks to the Zendaya-starring show, gem-studded faces and heavy glitter have entered the mainstream makeup world. There’s been a significant spike in glitter makeup content, according to Instagram’s creator marketing team. These ethereal looks are perfect for an end-of-year party, and there are countless inspirational photos, so there’s something for everyone.

The simplest may be a lash-to-brow, wet shimmer look. But you don’t have to just stick to eyeshadow. Glitter can be applied on the cheekbones, brows, and anywhere, really. Lemonhead LA is a great place to find quality glitter cosmetics. However, plenty of brands have come out with Euphoria-themed makeup, so it’s accessible to everyone, no matter what your budget is.

Bold Blush

Blush usually plays a supporting role when it comes to makeup, but after several blush trends popped off on TikTok, it has become the main character. The technique of “underpainting” is done with a heavy amount of blush applied under foundation for a natural look. You can also apply blush across your nose, accented with faux (or real) freckles. The real boldness is in blush contouring. Back from the ‘80s, the blush contour trend involves using blush in areas you would typically contour, including the hollows of your cheekbones and around the forehead.

Champagne Bath

Most of the styles on this list are a nod to the Y2K craze, and the all-over shimmer trend is no exception. Who doesn’t love highlighter? But if you love it enough to bathe in it, brush it over your shoulders and décolletage to give yourself an all-over glow, like Paris Hilton at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival, for example.
