If you’re in an endless battle with your dry or frizzy hair, the obvious question to ask yourself is, “Why?” One of the reasons is hair damage, which tends to happen when your hair cuticle (outermost layer of your hair) opens up, allowing moisture to enter and causing it to swell — the result being frizz. Heat styling also damages the hair, weakening the shafts and causing them to break. But before you despair, have a look at these eight expert-recommended solutions to kill that frizz!

Hair Serums

One of the best ways to prevent frizz is through hair serums. If you watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta, you’ll definitely know Kenya Moore and her long, luscious, and desirable hair — she serves as the perfect example for Black women afraid of owning long hair. Moore’s hair care line features a growth serum that strengthens dry and weak hair. It works for all hair types and makes strands shinier and softer.

Bond-Repairing Products

When the hair’s molecular bonds are broken, this gives way to damage. That’s why it’s important to look for products that focus on repairing those bonds. Doing so not only heals your hair but also strengthens and makes it healthier. One Kim Kardashian-approved product famous for doing the job is Nº 3 Hair Perfector by OLAPLEX

Heat Protection

Heat is one of the killers of hair health; hair exposed to high heat is prone to frizz. While flat irons may be necessary for styling, a good recommendation is to use it together with heat protecting sprays.

Deep Conditioning

Less elasticity in hair equals dry and frizzy hair. Deep conditioning on a weekly or biweekly basis is the perfect solution for a lack in elasticity. Plus, it’s nice to take a break, sitting and soaking in hair nutrients, before washing everything out.

Natural Hair Masks

Some foods are known for their vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and antioxidants. These ingredients are the perfect recipe for healthy hair. A coffee and coconut milk mask combines the two ingredients with olive oil. Antioxidant-rich coffee strengthens and smooths out hair, while high-protein coconut milk repairs existing damage.

Silk Pillows

Surprisingly, cotton pillows can impact the quality of your hair, seeping out moisture from your precious strands while you sleep. Silk pillows, however, do the opposite. They also keep the hair’s natural oils intact!

Oil Treatments

Oil treatments work because they condition the hair and tame frizz. They also give your hair that shiny finish while nourishing it. Olive oil, coconut oil, and argan oil are all popular options that are rich in antioxidants.

Humectants

Humectants are found in ingredients like honey, aloe, glycerin, and olive oil. They bring moisture into your hair and keep it healthy and shiny. Aloe vera gel has water portions that help to hydrate the hair. It even acts as a natural conditioner.
