BOO!
Oops, did we scare you?
Since it’s Spooky Season, we want you to put your best face forward. Literally. Forget about buying an elaborate Halloween costume this year, instead let the focal point be your pretty face. Plus, no matter what you wear, face makeup makes a look come together. With Halloween just around the corner, grab some inspiration from the top 11 Ghoul-ish Glam beauty trends.
Become Frankenstein, a Sci-Fi Favourite
While the Frankenstein that Mary Shelley wrote about is far from cute, your costume makeup doesn’t have to reflect that. Instead, it can provide the perfect blend of spooky and adorable! Plus, dressing as a classic sci-fi character like Frankenstein ensures everyone will recognize you without needing to ask – saving you from any awkward introductions.
Replicate this makeup look by using the Rude ‘Disco Dance Floor ProFX Palette’ along with Moon Creations Face Paint in green.
Stand Out from the Crowd as Birthday Cake
While this look won’t be easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy, it sure will turn heads. Plus, dressing as a birthday cake is unique enough that you can pretty much guarantee no one will show up dressed the same as you. @Anya.tisdale used her face as the canvas to create a star shaped cake. Using red icing, she added flowers and strawberry slices. The product ‘Clown White’ by Ben Nye can be used to create the ‘icing’. Put the cream through a piper to create pretty dollops. The cherry on top? Stick a few pastel-coloured candles into the cream (although we wouldn’t recommend lighting them). You don’t have to choose a pink and green theme like Anya did. Choose any shade for the base of your cake using Mehron’s Makeup ‘Cream Blend Stick’ and create your own theme.
Frighten Everyone as The Joker
After all, the true meaning of Halloween is to spook people. Use Beauty Bay’s ‘Bright 42 Colour Palette’ to create a purple, dark Smokey eye. To create the illusion of the scary massive mouth that the Joker has, use KVD Beauty’s ‘ever lasting liquid lipstick’, and smudge the corners, extending a third of the way from where your ears meet your jaw. Add Green coloured contact lenses to complete the look.
Be a Butterfly, Their Simplicity and Elegance never goes out of style
If going all out is not your forte, and you’re looking for a more toned-down makeup look, try a butterfly. Using e.l.f’s H2O Proof Eyeliner Pen, draw the wings out from your eyes. Then fill in the wings with the ‘Blue Moon’ Eyeshadow Palette. Add adhesive rhinestone face stickers to complete the look.
Embrace Your Brat Autumn as the Pop Culture Favourite Charlie xcx
Singer-songwriter Charlie xcx’s latest album “Brat” took the world by storm. With memes, and references such as, “brat summer”, Charlie xcx became an internet sensation trend which both influencers and brands hopped on. To recreate this look, use Take Two Cosmetics’s Neon Pigment in shade ‘Grass Ain’t Greener’ as eyeshadow to mimic the iconic neon green album cover. Finish the look with MAC Silky Matte Lipstick in the shade Caviar Black to give that edgy cool-girl vibe that Charlie sports.
Blow a Bubble as Violet from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a Roald Dahl children’s classic, and what better character to dress up as than Violet Beauregarde? Start by applying bright pink eyeshadow to your lids. Next, use purple face paint on your nose, adding highlight to the tip of your nose for dimension. Complete the look with a short blonde wig with bangs – and don’t forget to chew a piece of bubble-gum to channel Violet’s iconic style.
Strut Sultry as Poison Ivy
No there is nothing sexy about the allergic reaction that’s caused by poison ivy…but there is something sultry about being covered up with leaves. Recreate this look by using the Morphe Brushes Up til’ dawn eyeshadow palette. Keep in mind, with this look, there is no such thing as too much highlight.
Give everyone a good laugh as Elf on the Shelf
If you want to add some humour to your costume and perhaps scare a few folks along the way, then dressing as the children’s toy, “elf on the shelf’ is the absolute go-to. Elf on the shelf is supposed to let children know that Santa’s elves are watching their behaviour and will report back whether they deserve to be on the nice or naughty list. The parent’s job is to move the elf in a new spot every day so that their children believe that the elf moved all by itself. Using Official Snazaroo water activated paint and Kryolano Official’s Aqua Colour Face Paint, draw big eyes starting halfway from your forehead to about an inch below your bottom lash line. Just remember to close your eyes in pictures to show the full effect. If you really want to take this costume to the next level, when you attend a gathering or party, make a point of sitting in a different location every couple of minutes. Your commitment to the bit will make your character come alive and you’re likely to get a few laughs or startles…
