Video conferencing apps like Zoom have become the new norm. With the pandemic confining people to their homes, everything transitioned to Zoom. From virtual happy hours to birthday parties, virtual business meetings, virtual classrooms, family gatherings, and much more.

With video conferencing becoming a staple, you might cross paths with Zoom again, whether on a remote work conference, family reunion, or even a date. Although you might not always be dressed to the gills, you will want to put your best face forward. Consider a few tips to look your best on camera.

Glowing Skin

Location plays a key role in making you look presentable. Ensure you are not sitting directly under harsh overhead lights that can create dark shadows on your face. Sitting in front of a window will brighten your face. It is also equally important to ensure your skin is hydrated and nourished. When your facial skin is nourished and refreshed, applying makeup is much easier. Your eyes are important; eye masks like Pixi Beautif-eye Patches will make your skin look plumper, smoother, and radiant.

Flushed-Looking Cheeks

Adding a dash of blush to your cheeks can give you a youthful look and fight camera-induced sallowness. The key is to go for a bright warm shade; cool tones look darker on camera. Warm tones like yellow or golden undertones like coral or peach are ideal. To top off your look, swipe your blush across your cheekbones and eyelids into your temples to create an all-over flush.

Full Pouty Lips

You wouldn’t want to overline your lips to make them too noticeable. Look for a liner that matches your natural lip colour. Use a satin or gloss formula and top it off with a clear gloss. It is advisable to avoid matte colours to make your lips look fuller. Shiny lips will make them appear bigger.

Concealer/Colour Correction

Video cameras tend to pick up on discolorations quickly. To tone down any redness, blemishes, or dark patches, the Le Maqpro Palette will correct any existing discoloration. Apply the concealer or foundation over the top for a flawless appearance. You can also use yellow or olive greens to tone down or cancel out specific areas that can pick up discolorations easily. To do that, apply a colour corrector in thin layers or specific areas with a small brush.

Brows, Eyeshadow, and Mascara

It is advisable to take care of your brows, eyeshadow, and mascara before you apply the foundation to make the process less messy. For pigment-rich eyes, it’s a good idea to do this first to avoid any eyeshadow fallout affecting your foundation. Consider using an eye primer for a statement-making look that stays in style. Brows are tricky because their overall shape and look will determine the rest of your look. Using a spoolie brush to shape your brows or comb out any clumpy mascara is advisable.

Hair

Your hair is equally important when you want to look presentable and neat. Granted, you may want to do makeup for Zoom calls, but hair is much more challenging to tackle. If you don’t have the time to style your hair, a big chunky headband is the key to hiding its features. They are also ideal if you have grey or dark roots or haven’t had time to wash it.

The two most popular hairstyles sporting a headband are the wrapped ponytail and the top knot. A high pony is super easy and classic; it can transform your look into an elegant one instantly. The top knot, on the other hand, can make you look casual and professional, and gives the impression that you spent hours styling your hair. Easy and elegant, the top knot looks great on camera.
