With so many brands and shades to choose from, blush colours have come a long way. If you want to choose a colour, there are a plethora of choices and options that can leave you in awe.  A blush is an essential makeup accessory. With just a few swipes, you can brighten your whole face and add a glamorous look to your appearance.

But before you decide on a blush colour, you will need to figure out your skin tone first. Here are a few steps you can take to identify your skin tone before you pick the right blush colour.

Identifying Your Skin Tone
Although it might initially seem tricky, there are several ways to gauge your skin tone. There are three tones: warm, cool, and neutral. To figure out your skin tone, try wearing a white t-shirt and looking at the mirror. If your skin appears pink or rosy, you have a cool tone. If your face looks yellow, then your undertone is warm. If you look better in off-white colours rather than stark white, then you are likely warm-toned. If both colours don’t wash you out, then you have a neutral undertone.

Another smart way to check your tone is to take a look at the veins around your neck. If you see blue veins, you have cool undertones; if you see green veins, you have warm undertones. When in doubt, ask a friend or a makeup artist to help you gauge your tone. Below are a few blush options that match your skin tone.

Choosing the Right Colour

Fair Skin Tones
Women with fair skin should strive to accentuate their skin tone, rather than overwhelm it. Lighter colours look best; nevertheless, that doesn’t mean that deeper shades won’t work as well. Here are a few options to choose from.

Plum
When applied correctly, a plum shade can add drama and mystery to your look. As a start, it’s important to blend your blush with the rest of the makeup.

Baby Pink
If you are looking for an authentically flushed look, this shade is ideal. It works well with people who have fair skin tones, giving you a natural look that doesn’t seem too polished.

Medium Skin Tones

Apricot
Choosing a vibrant colour like apricot is a flattering option. This shade doesn’t steal the look from the rest of your makeup and is bold enough to stand alone as a distinct colour. It can also bring out your tan.

Berry
The berry shade works best with a medium skin tone. You can choose a deeper shade of berry or a lighter tone for a relaxed, easy look, or for a more sophisticated one.

Olive Skin Tone

Rose
The rose shade is ideal for those with a delicate, authentic flush. Not too bold or shadowy, it’s immediately noticeable. If you are looking for an everyday blush, this tone is the one to have.

Bronze
Ideal for summer months, the bronze shade brings out your tan. If you already have one, it will enhance it. Known for adding warmth and brightness, it can also define facial features like the cheekbones, jawline, and nose.

Deep Skin Tones

Brick Red
Brick red blush evokes shades of summer; it bridges the gap between bronzer and blush, adding warmth to your naturally olive undertone. It simply makes your face pop up and burst with life, packing a punch with similar colours like raisin.

Tangerine
Tangerine gives your skin a naturally healthy flush; ever chic and warm, it is ideal for summer. You can pair it easily with other beauty essentials or wear it with a little bit of mascara.
