Being in a relationship is great and important for a future of a family, as many people desire that lifestyle. However, nothing is promised, and relationships do fail, and people break up from a matter of reasons. A breakup can be devastating, especially if one of the partners was really close and intrigued with the other. Breakups can be amicable, yet sometimes, one partner leaves the other for another person, leaving the other devasted. In cases like these, it can be easy to think you did something wrong, despite all the previous happy times you had together, and your partner chooses someone else over you, despite years of relation. But do not let this wrong notion make you depressed, as you can recover. Let’s look into how.
Don’t Supress Your Feelings
It is perfectly normal to feel sad. Let yourself cry, as it helps you feel better, granted somewhere private. Also, speak to someone, to avoid depression, getting your true feelings out there and not prolonging the break up’s impact on you and your life. Therapy can help, or even a trusted friend, someone you can express and share your thoughts with, and in turn, that person comforts you and gives you feedback that can make you happy. They may say it was not meant to be, or your first relationship will not be your last one, etc.
Write your Feelings. Then Throw Them Away!
A common technique, you can write what you are feeling, in your own words, then tear up the paper, or dispose of it in a way that makes you happy. It is normal for anger to be one of your feelings, but expressing your anger is best done alone and in a discreet manner. The disposal of your ex-partner’s memories can also be beneficial, in replacing your anger feeling with a self satisfied one. Remember, do not ‘bottle’ up your feelings, let them out, in a healthy and controlled manner.
Happy Time for Yourself
There is so much to do, by yourself or with friends, which can help you take your mind off your ex-partner. In a city as big as Toronto, you can enjoy restaurants or social venues, or sail the harbourfront, or try a new activity you haven’t done before. If still feeling unhappy, do it alone, taking your mind off people in general, if it makes you feel better. Taking your mind off the breakup can be challenging, but find your happy places or activities to ensure the breakup doesn’t take over your personal life.
Move On – You Can Find Love Again
When you feel better and want to socialize again, call up your friends and do something big and fun. Remember, there is a chance you can still meet another partner, maybe even loving them more than your ex-partner, completely overwhelming the negative feeling of the breakup. Only you can control how you feel, and it is best done through careful consideration and your own personal preferences. And do not let the breakup come into your life and change your true character.
